(if you’re into that sort of thing)
Yes, I am into that sort of thing. If you’ve scrolled down enough on my homepage you’ve probably noticed the picture link on the right side that is from a manga book. It links to Bleach actually if you want to read it…. Anyway, today, after reading 9 hours straight of online manga, I decided that I was going to ramble slightly about my favorite and least favorite characters I have encountered thus far in my life as a manga nerd. You see, this is how I spend my summer (lame, yes I know).
So far I have read the following (in the order of worst to best):
- Fruits Basket
- Othello (NOT THE SHAKESPEARE PLAY) (I actually just read this but I can’t recall it at all… it must’ve been boring)
- Pet Shop of Horrors
- Zombie Loan
- One Piece
- Spirited Away
- Skip Beat
FAVORITE MAIN CHARACTERS
I am not usually a fan of main characters to be honest. I much prefer random characters that show up (I will cover these soon). Here are some protagonists that I like the most:
Kyouko from Skip Beat
She is a girl that grew up in love with a boy who becomes a superstar and was terribly used by him. When she finds this out, she vows to get revenge and loses the feeling of “love”. When she enters an agency to become a star herself she is stuck into the “Love-me” section because she must learn to want to be loved and love her fans. She is a strong independant girl who has gone a little insane.
Luffy from One Piece
Ever since he was small, Lufy wanted to become a pirate just like his hero, Red-Haired Shanks. When he eats a magic fruit that gives him the ability of a rubber band, he sets out to the sea to find the legendary treasure and become the Pirate King. He is fun loving, almost never serious, and a great friend (despite being a pirate).
Count from Pet Shop of Horrors
Count is some strange immortal being that looks like a human (except for his strange eyes) that runs a pet shop with exotic and mystical creatures in downtown Tokyo. He loves sweets, is cheerful and is very mysterious… I don’t know how else to describe him!
FAVORITE OUT-OF-ALL CHARACTERS
Here are my true favorite characters:
Red-Haired Shanks from One Piece
The pirate that luffy looks up to, and is certainly a good example to look up to! Kind, calm and an awesome fighter.
Mr.President from Skip Beat
The president of LME (the agency Kyouko joins) is certainly an interesting man. He is a large upholder of the fact that you must have love to succeed in show bi, and he is extremely dramatic. Everyday he comes to work in a new, strange, elaborate costume and spends his free time doing very random actvities such as fencing with famous Hungarian fencing champions and climbing in the vents to look for his granddaughter.
Urahara Kisuke from Bleach.
This is my favorite character so far. He once was once a high ranking Captain of the but was banned from the realm (read Bleach to know more). He now works in a shop in our realm and sells merchandise to here and general things. He teaches the main character, Inchigo, how to fight and such. He is very ….. no words can describe him. I love him so much. ❤ …He is very silly, is dramatic, randomly appears everywhere, is very intelligent, strong and kind.
Would be Turoku from Fruits Basket (actually I may not have her name spelt correct. Its been a while and I didnt like her so why bother remember her name?) Anyway, she’s the protaganist. She is SO SHALLOW. She is always happy despite her troubled past, is loved by everyone practically, she’s extremely nice, and very fragile (?). Typical romance lead. You know what I mean.
I actually liked most of those, even fruits Basket was alright (not my style but still good). To tell you the truth, I’m very picky when I pick which manga I’m going to read. I only pick ones that I like the drawing style of. If I didn’t, I’d be driven up the wall.
Here is the my bucket list of manga I want to read. I’ve read the summaries, had suggestions from numerous people, or flipped through/started them in book stores:
Full Metal Alchemist
Pandora’s Hearts (maybe)
Library Wars (well actually this is for alm9)
From me to you (looks like it could turn into a cheesey romance)
