Many of you have heard of him. Most of you have heard that his books are terrible. But, let’s think of this now. Are we just judging a book by its cover? Are his books really all that bad?
I have heard lots about Stephen King from my fellow book nerds… and well, just people in general. A vast majority of people refuse to read his books just based on the premise of what they have heard his books are like. Not wanting to naturally assume the worst and dislike something without knowing what it’s like, I have decided I shall test King’s writing. After all, all the people who have read his books like his writing. I have discovered that the King critics I know are people who haven’t actually read any of his books. Hmm… I wondered.. Are these just assumptions?
I took out “Fire Starter” by Stephen King from my school library yesterday. (Of course I had to pick the one you have to keep an elastic around so all the pages don’t fall out… seriously, we need to replace it). So far, not having had time to read much but the first 60-ish pages of the book yesterday, it is so far very intriguing. It is about a widowed father and his 7yr old daughter, both with psychic powers. I must say, I’m enjoying it. (And my father, whom is a Stephen King anti-reader came to realize its the book to a movie he really enjoyed. .. *Facepalm*)
The future will soon tell me the answer to my question; Is King a king of literature or a seriously disturbing guy? And what I’m telling you now is not to judge books by their covers… or the covers people create for them. Find out for yourself! Discover, dear readers! Take a chance!
